Ever get tired of plain old burgers? Me either. But, sometimes it is nice to change things up a little bit. Here is a perfect way to switch up a turkey (or beef) burger with a super simple topping. It is almost the exact same filling as my Jalapeno Popper Wonton Cups but instead of being baked in wontons, I pile it high on burgers.
You control the amount of spice by including or removing the jalapeno seeds and ribs. It can’t hurt to throw in some bacon pieces either.
4 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/2- 1 jalapeno
1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 small onion
Bacon pieces (optional)
1/2 tsp minced garlic
While your burgers are grilling, add the softened cream cheese and shredded cheese to a bowl. Finely chop the onion and add that to the bowl. Add in the minced garlic and mix well.
Depending on how spicy you want things to get, mince up the jalapeno with or without the seeds and ribs. The more seeds and ribs, the spicier it will be. *Tip: did you know the jalapenos with white lines on the outside are generally much hotter? I always thought that meant they were just old…
Add the jalapeno to the cream cheese mixture. This is where you would add the cooked bacon pieces if you want.
When the burgers come off the grill, add a large spoonful of the mixture to the top of the burger. Enjoy a creamy, spicy burger that is anything but boring!
